Grand Tetons and Cody, Wyoming

After putting our friend Jim Vivaldelli on a plane to Salt Lake City, Jamye and I spent an evening in Idaho Falls and headed for Jackson Hole, WY and the Tetons the following day. The Tetons were spectacular, with rugged peaks rising from the valley floor reflected in surrounding lakes. We camped at Coulter Bay and enjoyed a relaxing evening by the water. The next morning we headed to Cody, WY for what turned out to be a grand adventure. A close friend of many years, Charles Francis, who is on the board of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center (BBHC), helped with the logistics of our visit, particularly with the storage of our camper, Hiyo while away 7/13-7/18 in upstate New York. Charlie’s colleague at BBHC, Gina Schneider, was wonderful in helping with camping arrangements and a guided tour of the gem in the west, the BBHC. Arguably the most exciting museum west of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, the Cody is a must see for anyone traveling west. It is actually 5 museums in one, including Buffalo Bill and the American West, Plains Indian Peoples, Firearms, the Nature of Yellowstone, and Western art. Jamye and I spent 5 hours in the museum and needed more time. That evening we went to a Rodeo that was the real deal, not just a show. Cowboys are, indeed, the essence of toughness.

  1. Larry,
I am a regular at West Street Diner in Germantown. In fact a '62 graduate of Gtwn HS when there were only 42 in the senior class. Also a member of the class of '68 at USNA. But my wife and I are also bicycle riders and just came off a four day trip along the Katy; from St.Chas out and back. Last Sunday the Commercial Appeal printed our story.
So Carol showed me a printed copy of your first post. I was both fascinated and now anxious to meet you when you guys get back to Gtwn. I must have a dozen book on one of my early and continuing fascinating stories: the grand voyage of the Corps of Discovery.

  2. Fred,
Thanks for your note. I look forward to joining you at the diner in late September. I'm sure there will be much to discuss regarding the great adventures of the Corps of
    Discovery!
